One of my last projects at AdRoll was creating a hand-drawn font for the “Moments” campaign. We needed a way for our animator and editor to quickly create animated text across a series of videos. Lettering every frame was too time-consuming, and using a pre-existing font was too limited.
A custom font solved all problems present: it automatically ensured consistency across collateral, matched existing assets, and made creating title slides/adding copy to footage as easy as changing the font’s weight. I used Fontself to convert my handwriting into an all-caps sans; in terms of capability it’s no Robofont, but I liked how it preserved the texture of my original drawings.
I’ve done more polished type design work, but am proud of this one because it saved my coworkers’ some headache and looks pretty nice in the final use case.
